Wiegel Tool Works is a premier metal stamping manufacturer located in Wood Dale Illinois. Established in 1941, we expanded our modern air-conditioned building to 93,000 square feet in 2011. WTW specializes in complete turnkey packages including engineering, prototypes, tool construction, and wire/EDM.

The Tooling Engineer produces accurate designs per specifications to be used in the production of new Dies. The Tooling Engineer performs all necessary engineering changes to die designs per work order directions.



1. Design tools and dies accurately and efficiently, within specified time frames, to Company engineering specifications

2. Create a bill of materials for all designs

3. Manage engineering CAD files in an organized and comprehensible format

4. Works closely with the tool room to debug tools and keep CAD files up to date

5. Create and update detailed drawings required for manufacturing using the company's CAD system

6. Attend design review meetings to determine customer requirements, production issues and timing considerations

7. Produce prints for customers and production personnel

8. Work with a team of engineers to develop the conceptual, preliminary, and detail design

9. Draw preliminary sketches of dies for review

10. Prepare strip layouts and detailed drawings making certain the design meets the customer piece part and die or

     machine specifications, taking into consideration how the job was quoted

11. Select items per company standards to incorporate into the project and makes sure job materials and components

     are ordered in a timely manner

12. Check, document and communicate the progress of jobs as they are being built

13. Receive, understand and follow all written and oral instructions

14. Communicate all problems and other work-related issues to supervisor

15. Complete all paperwork associated with position in a timely manner

16. Comply with all Company policies and procedures including safety and attendance requirements

17. Participate in activities to increase personal skill level and to improve overall departmental processes and

     product quality

18. Resolve day-to-day issues by working effectively with others

19. Follow instructions to perform other work-related duties as required to meet Company goals

Minimum Qualifications

1. High School diploma or equivalent

2. Advanced training through an accredited program and experience in tool and die design/engineering

3. Computer literacy with a solid knowledge of computer operating systems and related software (WINDOWS, MS

    Office Products)

4. Extensive knowledge of CAD systems, AutoCAD

5. Ability to read and understand specifications, blueprints/drawings, and other technical data

6. Excellent writing and verbal skills and the ability to communicate clearly in English to technical and non-technical

    personnel, customers and vendors

7. 3D modeling experience a must

8. Ability to understand and implement geometric tolerance

9. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration and project management skills


Preferred Qualifications

1. Certified Journeyman Tool and Die Maker

2. Five years of experience in Tool & Die Design/as a Tool and Die Maker

3. Experienced in NX 8.5 (formerly Unigraphics) with Die Wizard
